What can be done?

So Im just washing my dishes this afternoon and I here this news story on NPR about widows in Iraq. These women whose husbands have either left them or have been killed have been discarded by their families and are now trying to survive by living in a "widows trailor park." They have nothing. The trailors they live are like ovens in the sun. They have electicity, no water and of course no money.
These stories drive me crazy because I am immediatly thrown into an emotional state of outrage and helplessness. I found the link on NPRs website for the story and found no leads on how to help. You can't just tell me this god awful story and then leave me with no ability to follow up or help! So does anyone out there have any ideas how you can go the next step and help these women and thier children? I will keep digging but it is beyond me how these things can go on and people can report on them and then give no useful information on what we can do to help.

Yeah, we felt that way about that Al Gore movie. What was it? An Inconvenient Truth, I think. The whole movie was about the problem, but then really the only suggestions of what to do came in the credits. Huh? That is a sad story they have there. You're so good to follow up to try to do something.
